Message from the Director
Welcome to the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) at McMaster University!
We are thrilled to have you join our vibrant community, where we embrace the numerous benefits of working out together. At PACE, we believe that exercising with others enhances motivation, commitment, and overall well-being through camaraderie and mutual support.
Our centre offers five specialized exercise programs designed for seniors and individuals living with cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries. These programs are informed by the latest scientific research and tailored to meet each participant’s unique needs, ensuring that every exercise experience is safe, effective, and personalized to provide the highest level of care and results.
PACE is home to over 200 students who collaborate with our dedicated team of health professionals and staff in our state-of-the-art exercise and rehabilitation centre. We create a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where community members can achieve their health and wellness goals while contributing to the experiential learning of our students.
Community members also have the opportunity to participate in faculty-led research studies that advance our understanding of health, exercise, active living, and aging. Your involvement helps drive innovation and progress in these vital areas.
Our journey began 40 years ago with our first program at PACE, which emerged from a research study. Participants wished to maintain their connection with each other and the university, establishing the foundation for what PACE is today. Despite decades of growth, our core values of community support and mutual encouragement remain as strong as ever.
We invite you to explore our programs, connect with our community, and experience the unique benefits of PACE. Whether you are a community member, student, or donor, we are delighted to welcome you to PACE. Together, we can make a lasting impact on health and wellness.
Warm regards,
Jennifer Heisz
