Please note: It is a mandatory requirement that all volunteers wear the PACE Volunteer shirt, available for purchase for $10 at the PACE facility.

 

MacWheelers and MacMS-FITT

There are various volunteer positions available in the MacWheelers and MacMS-FITT programs. 

BWSTT Volunteer:

As a Body Weight Support Treadmill Training (BWSTT) volunteer, your main responsibility will be to assist a client in leg ambulation. As several of the clients you will be working with have spinal cord injuries, they will often need assistance moving their lower extremities while walking on our specialized treadmills. This volunteer opportunity is the most “hands-on” experience you will get with our program. Currently, BWSTT volunteers are assigned based on program requirement. 

MacWheelers Drop-In/Floor Volunteer:

As a drop-in/floor volunteer, you will be responsible for working one-on-one with one of our clients on a weekly basis to lead them through their workout program. You will assist with adjusting weights, setting up machines, and monitoring their weekly progress. You will work closely with staff to meet the client’s personal and physical goals. As several of the clients you will be working with have spinal cord injuries, they will often need assistance moving their lower extremities while walking on our specialized treadmills. You may have the opportunity to help with manual leg ambulation of clients during Body Weight Support Treadmill Training (BWSTT) sessions. This volunteer opportunity requires a minimum 2.5 hour commitment per week. The program hours are as follows: Monday/ Wednesday (1-3:30pm) and Tuesday/Thursday (1-3:30pm, 4:30-7:00pm).

MacMS-FITT Floor Volunteer:

As a MacMS-FITT floor volunteer, you are responsible for working one-on-one with cliental that have multiple sclerosis. Your role includes assisting clients with their specialized daily programs to ensure they meet their personal goals. Additionally, you will be trained to look for the signs and symptoms that you may come across during a training session in order to ensure a safe workout. This volunteer opportunity requires a 2 hour commitment per week. The available volunteer hours are: Monday (10:30am-1:00pm) and Wednesday (10:30am-1pm).

MacCardiac, MacSeniors, & MacWarriors

PACE Volunteers will be directly supervised by the coordinator of the program for which they are volunteering (i.e., Angelica). The Volunteer Coordinator for the program will serve as the administrative contact.

Volunteer responsibilities can include:

 - Basic Communications/public relations
         - Making posters/displays
 - Programming HUR Cards
 - Greeting clients
 - Answering basic questions about the facility, hours, equipment
 - Assisting clients in completing their prescribed exercise 
 - Monitoring that clients are exercising safely and at their prescribed intensity
        - E.g. taking the client's pulse, checking weight loads, etc.
 - Assisting with record-keeping/charting
 - Assisting with planning, promoting, and implementing special events (e.g. fund-raisers, parties, lectures)
 - Cleaning and Maintenance
        - Wiping down equipment, putting away log books, tidying display areas

If you require a reference letter, a minimum of 100 hours of volunteering must be completed during your time as a volunteer.
