Microcredential

The Microcredential in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health is administered by the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE) and the Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Science.

This microcredential provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to integrate coursework and experiential learning focused on advancing health equity through physical activity, mobility, and community engagement. Students gain a strong foundation in inclusive health promotion, develop professional competencies alongside exercise professionals, and engage directly with community members through applied practice and volunteer experiences at PACE.

Learning Outcomes:

Students who complete this microcredential will be able to:

  • Understand how equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) shape physical activity, mobility, and community health.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and inclusive design principles to improve health outcomes for diverse populations.
  • Develop professional communication, leadership, and person-centred delivery skills in applied settings.
  • Critically engage with clients and communities to co-create equitable health solutions.
  • Translate research and theory into practice through experiential and community-based learning

 

Course List:

The microcredential consists of the following four courses:

  • PACE 1A01 – No prerequsites required
  • PACE 2A03*
  • PACE 3A03*
  • PACE 4A00*

*Please be aware that you must apply for permission to enroll in these courses, with permission to enroll granted only to successful applicants

Students enrolled in PACE 2A03, PACE 3A03, or PACE 4A00 must complete 60 placement hours during the semester in which they are enrolled in that course. To earn the microcredential, students must complete a minimum of 180 cumulative placement hours across all three courses.

 

Requirements:

Any student in an undergraduate degree program at McMaster may declare the Microcredential in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health at the time of graduation, provided they complete the following:

PACE 1A01PACE 2A03PACE 3A03, and PACE 4A00 (7 units total, including placement and volunteer hours).

Completion of all four courses will be formally recognized on student transcripts as: Microcredential in Equitable Activity, Mobility, and Community Health.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

No! Any student is able to achieve this microcredential, provided they are actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at McMaster.

While previous volunteer experience at PACE is not a requirement, individuals who have exhibited strong performance in this position will likely have a stronger application.

The application for the Fall semester is planned to be released in mid to late July, while the application for the Winter semester is planned to be released in mid to late November. Please check our website and social media pages for updates as those times approach.
